Needed Update!

Since my year-out post, I've not lost much at all. I'm hovering around 210-212. I definitely chalk this up to being lazy and not working out, the stress of getting used to school (again), and so on and so forth.

In other words, I've been laaazy.

I've tried foods I probably shouldn't be eating. Usually I get a craving, eat it and then go "ew...that wasn't worth it" and don't touch it again -- throw it out or give it away (case in point - donuts). Although I'm not too terribly horrible at this, I'm not following the rule of no drinking an hour before and after eating food. I sometimes sip right after I eat - oops. Definitely at the point where I seem to always be hungry - or at least my head thinks I am. This is mostly when I'm at home by myself. I don't particularly pay attention or probably eat as much as I should (65+ grams of protein a day and around 1200 calories) on school days or really any day I'm not home. Trying to work on that! I just invested in a food dryer and made some jerky and banana chips. Going to experiment more with fruits and make my own trail mix. I made the jerky a wee bit too salty, so next round I'm definitely not doing much at all. It's not bad though! Also made my own tortilla chips (baked a flour tortilla in the oven), since I've been craving them. I normally just garnish a Mexican meal with them.

I've been sporadically doing the Couch25K training. I skipped weeks 1 and 2 and went straight to 3 which consists of running 90 seconds, walking 90, running 3 min, walking 3 min and then repeat the whole cycle. I can definitely make it through and only really have difficulties if my 3 min run has hills (the last one did - oy!).

I can't seem to find a good gym anywhere nearby that is open the hours I'd like (24 hours would be best), and without a contract, AND for not less than $20 a month. I'd like to just run outside (not a fan of running on the treadmill) but the fall here in Michigan is wet - a lot - and the winter won't really allow for outside activities. There's a YMCA in my community (walking distance) but the hours aren't earlier enough or late enough (though I COULD go after classes, I just prefer morning workouts) and the price per month is $54, which is ridiculous. They don't have any student discounts unless you're under the age of 24. It IS a monthly thing and there's no contract or cancellation fee, which is nice - but $54?! That's almost 3 times the amount of any of the other gyms in the area! I'm not getting THAT many amenities and many I won't ever use!

Anywho, that's my rant.

I went winter clothes shopping with money Mom gave me for my birthday (I TURNED 26!!! CRIPES!). I happily fit into a size 16 jean (from a 26-28), which I didn't really expect. Yay me! I wear a L-XL shirt, depending on the style/brand.

Life is hectic - I have a lot of reading to do for classes...every single one requires a ton and I'm forever behind. Personal life is an iffy topic... I haven't made friends here (doesn't help that all my classes are full of freshman who do nothing but sit on their computers and check Facebook the entire time during class). I can't wait to start classes in my field.

Although, funny story I do wish to tell! I was at Barnes & Noble in between classes several weeks ago and noticed a guy kind of smiling and staring at me and wandering around in the area I was sitting until finally he took a seat, asked for a pen, told me I was very pretty, then gave a business card before taking off. His card: "FBI - Special Agent" ...seriously. I just had (harmless) coffee with him on Monday. He's older - has a 12 year old daughter...but I can totally say I was hit on by an FBI agent! How fun!

I think that's about it.

Not sure I like or will remain in Michigan. Thinking next year I might see about transferring to CSU or CU if I decide to go back to Colorado or MU since I have a ton of friends in Missouri I'd love to live closer too. We shall see how things go!

  1. Loved the FBI story--Ihope you are at least enjoying the Tolkien class--I would love to be studying that! I also can't believe you are 26--shouldn't you be in JH?!
